Iolaire Lodge

Iolaire Lodge is particularly suitable for romantic breaks and honeymoon couples. The lodge offers a great space in which to relax and recharge. As well as a fully equipped kitchen, spacious open-plan lounge and dining area with cathedral ceilings, Iolaire has the option of a luxurious outdoor hot tub.

The two king-size ground-floor bedrooms are light and airy with excellent storage and at the top of the stairs there is an open “loft” area with velvet armchair beanbags which can serve either as a children’s play area or just a quiet space.

The living areas and bedrooms come complete with a range of Harris Tweed soft furnishings and Scottish Arran Aromatics toiletries are supplied as standard. Linen and towels are provided as well as internet access, Smart TV with Freesat and NOW TV Package so you can stream your favourite shows. One well-behaved dog allowed.

Iolaire Lodge is named in memory of the ship of the same name that sank at the mouth of Stornoway Harbour on 1st January 1919, bringing servicemen home after four years of war. 206 men perished.

The owners are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble for them. The house is pretty central for all shops and the beach is only a short stroll away. Iolaire Naval Disaster Remembered

Poignantly the Iolaire naval disaster is still etched in the memories of the islands 100 years on. The tragedy struck on New Year’s morning 1919, shortly after the end of the First World War, when men of the island were returning home after the long campaign and looking forward to being back in the arms of their families. A naval yacht, HMS Iolaire, was dispatched to take men home from the mainland however she, and they, never made it. The vessel hit rocks within sight of Stornoway harbour, where a large crowd had gathered to await her arrival. More than 200 men drowned, ensuring the name Iolaire lives long in the history of Lewis and Harris.
